Barrier islands are key features of some coastlines that consist of low ridges of sand that parallel the shore. They are common

along the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains and are characterized by sand dunes and quiet lagoons. The location and features of barrier islands make them popular locations for coastal development. However, because these islands face the open ocean, they tend to be exposed to the full force of those occasional, powerful ocean storms. A friend is considering purchasing a vacation home on a barrier island. Given what you’ve learned about the impact of waves on coastal landforms, what information and advice could you offer your friend? Select the two statements that apply. View Available Hint(s) Select the two statements that apply. Barrier islands tend to experience significant erosion and deposition of sand. Mitigating these effects is extremely difficult and costly. Your friend would be wise to reconsider. A home on a barrier island is likely to take the full brunt of storm waves, making it a risky proposition. Your friend should think twice before purchasing. Because the barrier island is close to a larger landmass, it will be more protected from storms and waves. Your friend should definitely make the purchase. Barrier islands are stationary due to the constant addition and removal of sand balancing out. Your friend should snap up the property quickly.

Answer:

- Barrier islands tend to experience significant erosion and deposition of sand. Mitigating these effects is extremely difficult and costly. Your friend would be wise to reconsider.

- A home on a barrier island is likely to take the full brunt of storm waves, making it a risky proposition. Your friend should think twice before purchasing.

Explanation:

The barrier islands are very beautiful and attractive in general. They are desirable tourist attractions because they have nice climate and beautiful sandy beaches. Some people also want to purchase them, thus buy and own them, making a house on them. That is actually not a good idea at all. These islands usually cost a lot because of their attractive location, but not just that, they cost even more when it comes to maintaining them and keeping the island in good condition for living. The reason for that is that these islands experience severe erosion, as well as deposition, constantly causing changes to them. Another problem is that these islands are the natural barrier between the coastline and the storms from the sea, so they are the ones that experience the biggest impact of the storms, and the big waves can even totally submerge them as they have very low elevation.

Pachacha [2.7K]
Poor air and water quality, insufficient water availability, waste-disposal problems, and high energy consumption are exacerbated by the increasing population density and demands of urban environments. Strong city planning will be essential in managing these and other difficulties as the world's urban areas swell.

What happens to the superheated water leaving the reactor?
Kamila [148]

Answer:

D) it turns steam when released

Explanation:

In a nuclear reactor, the superheated water leaving turns to steam when released and it in turn is channeled to turn turbines in order to produce electricity.

  • A nuclear reaction is used to generate current through a series of processes.
  • The reaction produces a significant amount of heat energy.
  • This heat energy is used to superheat water and convert it to steam.
  • The steam is then channeled to drive turbines whose mechanical rotation produces electricity.
