Polaris is a Northern hemisphere star that shines above the zenith or horizon of the earth north pole. And it shrinks in the horizon in southern direction. As the rotational of the earth is directly planted below it.
Also called as the pointer star can be found looking at the big dipper. Even after being located at 434 light-years away from the planet its luminosity nearly 4,000 times that of our sun.
Polaris is accurate than any other compass. Only about 0.7 degrees separate Polaris from the north point of the earth.
