Missouri was part of the Union, it was going to swing Confederate but the pro-confederates were either killed or thrown off there land. Missouri was a slave owning state but didn't join the confederates because of the union keeping a stranglehold on the legislature. Like they did in Maryland. </span> -hope this helps :)
