El Barroco es un periodo de la historia occidental que surge entre los XVII y XVIII, y que trasciende en los campos de la litera
tura – la metáfora y la alegoría –, la escultura – realismo –, la pintura, la danza, la música y la arquitectura; como reflejo de los cambios imperantes en la estructura social y la forma de vida occidental; debido a los movimientos culturales involucrados se produjo una nueva ciencia y una nueva religión disidentes dentro del propio catolicismo, de esta manera la sociedad europea se divide, por un lado el catolicismo y por otro la reforma protestante (aquellos que se distancian de la autoridad de Roma). Bajo este contexto, los países que siguieron con una ideología catolicista se mantuvieron bajo un sistema casi feudal donde los aristócratas y el campesinado son las fuerzas preponderantes; situación que en los países que siguieron una línea reformista se ve alterada por la sustitución de la aristocracia por una burguesía mercantilista.
