Answer: takes time and energy

requires a mate

Sexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction in which two gametes of opposite sex fuse together to produce offsprings. The offsprings produce by this method are not genetically and physically identical to their parents. The sexual mode of reproduction brings variations among the organisms. The disadvantages of sexual reproduction are:

Takes time and energy: Compared to asexual mode of reproduction the sexual reproduction takes a long time. This is because of the fact that several organisms exhibit distinct mechanism for copulation which requires energy. Also, the gestation period in organisms is long and requires energy to produce offsprings.

Requires a mate: Sexual reproduction requires a mate because to produce offsprings the gametes from two opposite sex should fuse with each other. This is a disadvantage of sexual reproduction because of the fact that individuals have to find mates which is not an easy task, there is competition among the members of the same population to obtain mate, and there is danger of survival.
