  On June 1 1950 Senator Margaret Chase Smith had speech on the Senate floor in which she refused to name the Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy of Wisconsin, but she condemned  the anti-Communist witch hunt that was led by him.  She defended every American`s right to criticize, to protest and the right of independent taught. In response to her speech McCarthy referred to Smith and the six other Senators as "Snow White and the Six Dwarfs".
