Cesar Chavez was a powerful force in the organization of farm workers in the 1960s.  The strike against the grape growers in California was a cooperative effort by the National Farm Workers Association, led by Chavez, along with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee.  Those two organizations merged in 1966 to form the United Farm Workers labor union.
