The answer is 1. In the event of brake failure, one of the steps in stopping your car is to remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.

EXPLANATION:

If you experience a brake failure when driving your car, the first thing you need to is staying calm. Don’t panic. Make sure to slow down gradually. If you slow your car too suddenly, it will cause you to lose control of your car which can result in an accident. After that, you will want to do these steps:

1. Shift into a lower gear

If you’re driving a manual transmission car, shift your car to a lower gear. Don’t shift into first gear too suddenly as it can make you lose control of your car. Wait until the car has slowed down. When you shift your car to a lower gear, you also make use of engine braking. But if you’re driving an automatic transmission car, shift your gear from Drive to the lowest possible gear.

2. Pump your brakes

Pump your brakes repeatedly to build pressure in your braking system. Even if your car has an anti-braking system (ABS), you still need to do this. Once you’ve built enough pressure, simply press down on the brake pedal again.

3. Use your emergency brake

If the previous way doesn’t work, you can use your emergency brake (hand brake). Don’t release your hand brake handle too suddenly, especially if you’re driving at high speeds. It can cause the wheels to lock up and make you lose control of your car. So, the answer to that question is 1. A foot from the accelerator pedal.
