The ideals of the french revolution are equality, fraternity, and liberty. These were in stark contrast with the social order of the period. Absolute monarchs held power over people and territories. They legislated and demanded taxes that could not be questioned.

A very rigid social structure prevented social mobility and gave extensive privileges to nobility, of which many lived from the rents of their extensive states. This excluded not only the poorest people but also wealthy merchants and industrialists that had little political leverage.

The radio became widespread. It was welcomed by the public and by 1934 almost 60% of the US had radio access. Sports events, news, dramas and more were broadcasted through the radio.

Stock markets across the west developed negatively. On Black Tuesday, stock markets crashed, sending the world into the Great Depression.
