Metamorphosis by Frank Kafka One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed i

nto a horrible vermin. He lay on his armor-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections. The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His many legs, pitifully thin compared with the size of the rest of him, waved about helplessly as he looked. “What’s happened to me?” he thought. It wasn’t a dream. Gregor then turned to look out the window at the dull weather. Drops of rain could be heard hitting the pane, which made him feel quite sad. “How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense”, he thought, but that was something he was unable to do because he was used to sleeping on his right, and in his present state couldn’t get into that position. However hard he threw himself onto his right, he always rolled back to where he was. He must have tried it a hundred times, shut his eyes so that he wouldn’t have to look at the floundering legs, and only stopped when he began to feel a mild, dull pain there that he had never felt before. There was a cautious knock at the door near his head. “Gregor,” somebody called—it was his mother—“it’s quarter to seven. Didn’t you want to go somewhere?” Gregor was shocked when he heard his own voice answering, it could hardly be recognized as the voice he had had before. As if from deep inside him, there was a painful and uncontrollable squeaking mixed in with it, the words could be made out at first but then there was a sort of echo which made them unclear. Gregor had wanted to give a full answer and explain everything, but in the circumstances contented himself with saying: “Yes, mother, yes, thank-you, I’m getting up now.” Review the excerpt from the story “Metamorphosis” and answer the question below: What can we infer about Gregor’s mood when he tells himself, “How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense”? Gregor is calm. Gregor is hysterical. Gregor is fascinated. Gregor is fearful.

Answer: calm

Explanation:  In this passage from "The Metamorphosis" by Franz Kafka, what we can infer from Gregor's mood when he tells himself, "How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense"? is that Gregor is calm. In Part One of "The Metamorphosis", Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning and finds he has turned into a giant insect. Gregor calmly tries to sleep a bit longer as if he were in a nightmare. Instead of freaking out, Gregor looks at this as a "nonsense".

Law Incorporation [45]

Answer:

The answer is option C,

An individual's place in the world is determined by his or her environment.

Explanation: Sympathy is a poem by Paul Laurence which describes about the oppression of an individual. He used the metaphor of a caged bird which symbolizes the oppressed individual. The caged bird wants to get rid of the cage after seeing the beautiful landscape but it can't.

In the poem 'A man said to the universe' there is a conversation between a man and the universe. The man wants his recognition from the universe and the universe states him the facts. Here the man represents the individual and the universe represent the environment.

So in both poem the common theme is that an individual's place in the world is determined by his or her environment.

15. is He does not think highly of women in general.

16. is The Knight committed a terrible crime.

Explanation:

Basically, the knight in "The Wife of Bath" had found a woman by a river, ("damsel in distress"), and sought to take advantage of her, because he did not believe women are of importance, or really matter, so he inevitably raped her, which is why 16. is what it is, because his action with the woman by the river, was a crime, and a terrible thing.

Hope this helped.
