To solve this problem we need to determine if 85% is 34, then what is 100%

The easiest way to do this is to set up a proportion

Being \frac{34}{85}       \frac{x}{100}

To figure out the "rule" between 85 and 100, we divide 100 by 85.

100/85 = 20/17

To check our rule we can do 85 x 20/17 which = 100

Now to solve the problem so, 34 x 20/17 = 40

Our answer would be 40 :)

If Marissa got an 85% on her math quiz and she got 34 questions right, there would be a total of 40 questions on the test.

I hope this helps!

alexi’s restaurant bill is $58, and he wants to leave a 20 percent tip. which expression represents the total amount that alexi
Alexeev081 [22]
He is leaving 20% tip of the bill of $58

20% extra

So total amount = 100% + 20% = 120%

120% of 58

(120/100) * 58

1.2 * 58

= 69.6

So total amount Alexi needs to pay = $69.60
