The dog Buck, main character of the short novel "The Call of the Wild", quickly learns how to survive and how to become a leader. Once a pet living in a comfortable home, he is stolen and sold to become a sled-dog in Canada.
This excerpt shows Buck's reaction when he meets a wolf. Instead of running away, Buck walks toward the wolf, his body language showing both respect and strength.
