When this happens, a total lunar eclipse forms, Earth completely is blocking sunlight from reaching the Moon.

Therefore, during a lunar eclipses, different tides occur. During the moon's quarter phases the sun and moon work at right angles, causing the changes seen in tides. This resulting in a smaller difference between higher and lower tides and is known as a neap tide. See image below:
