A reservoir refers to an enlarged lake or pond, whether natural or artificial, created to store water. Reservoirs are usually created by controlling a river that drains into a body of water. On the other hand, a dam is a barrier that restricts the flow of water. Both of these methods are used to control floods, but also to provide water for human consumption, irrigation and industrial use.
