The Roman Republic was the r<span>epublic that ruled Italy which had citizens elect representatives to rule in their name.

In this republic, the citizens were the individuals that were born free in Roman Territory or freed slaves. They had the right to vote and elect representatives (Senators, Tribunes) which ruled in their name. The right to vote is called </span><span>Ius suffragiorum in Latin. The highest charge in the Republic was the Consul, who was elected by the Senate.
