The Supreme Court case Worcester v. Georgia was a small victory for the Cherokee Nation in Georgia because it struck down the laws created by the Georgian legislature.

Further Explanation:

Worcester V Georgia (1832) abandoned the judgement of Samuel Worcester by Supreme Court. It also held the Georgia criminal statute which was forbidding non-Native Americans to live on Americans native land without license. It was unconstitutional.

Samuel Austin Worcester was translator of Bible, protector of the Cherokee'ssovereignty and a missionary to Cherokee He made collaboration with Elias Boudinot to establish the Cherokee Phoenix, first American newspaper in vernacular language. Migration of European American settlers from coastal areas towards Cherokee territory even after making land cessions to the US government became prevalent. Worchester and his sponsor plotted to fight against the encroachment through court. They even want to take the case to the Supreme Court to explain the relation between the federal and the state government to establish the sovereignty of Cherokee nation.

Ex- U.S Attorney General, William Writ argued their position in US Supreme court. Cherokee Nation was described as a domestic dependent nation with no authority binding on a state by Chief Justice Marshall.

Worcester along with other eleven missionaries protested and published a resolution against the Georgia Law in1830 forbidding white men from living on the land of America without state license. According to the Worcester by obeying this law they will be compromising their sovereignty. After implementation of the law, Worcester and many others were charged for disobeying the law. They refuse to get the license.
