In this case, narrator is describing not only Enrico’s father emotions by the use the phrase “His dad felt confident…” but also Enrico’s feelings as in the phrase “feeling like a failure”.  

The third-person omniscient point of view is a literary resource used when narrating a story and allows the readers to know more details and a full perspective of the characters in the story.
