16 miles north. On the same day, the second group traveled 12 miles east. How far apart are the groups at the end of one day of walking?

Easiest way is to use Pythagorean theorem which is a*a+b*b=c*c
So that would be 16*16+12*12=c*c
That’s 256+144=c*c
400=c*c
And then you do the square root of 400 (undoing the multiplied by c) which would be 20. The two groups are 20 miles away from eachother
