In these lines, Thomas Jefferson gives us a brief peak of what the document is about. The overall idea of this introduction is to affirm that when a group of people (The Thirteen American Colonies) finds necessary, or decides, to split off from a nation (Great Britain), it is the duty of that group of people to tell the world the causes of that separation, and with this words, Jefferson also aims to introduce the causes of that separation or independence.
