An estimated 240,000 people left the land last year, dropping the nation's farm population to its lowest level since before the Civil War, the Government reported today. 
It lowered as many Americans were sold into slavery.

It stayed the same as people stopped coming to America.

It grew as more people came to America.

It lowered as many Americans went to work in factories.
