The answer for the above question is a synapse. it is a small space in which an impulse travels to move from one neuron to another. An impulse travels from one neuron to another by release and diffusion of chemicals referred to as the neurotransmitters across the synapse (a small gap between neurons). When an impulse reaches an end of a neuron, the impulse opens ion pores in the axon terminal which allows calcium ions to enter and trigger the release of neurotransmitter by the vesicles.

An impulse moves from one neuron to another across a small space called synapse.

A nerve impulse is transmitted via electrical stimulus (within the cell) and chemical signal (between cells). Two neurons (or neuron with effector cell) communicate one to another by a structure called synapse. Synapse is actually a little space between the end of the axon and dendrite of another cell (but without material continuity between both cells). The axon releases chemical molecules called neurotransmitters, which then attach to receptors in the membrane of the following cell.

In Gregor Mendel's study with the color or peas, which ones were dominant and which ones were recessive?
zhenek [66]

Answer:

The peas with the purple flowers were dominant and the peas with the white flowers were recessive.

Explanation:

In Gregor Mendel's study, he studied pea plants with purple flowers and white flowers. The purple flowers were dominant, and whenever the allele for a purple flower was present is was visible on the plant. The white flowers were recessive because if an allele for a purple flower was present, then the flower was purple. The flowers were only white if both alleles were for white flowers.

Given our understanding of genetics, we can confirm that the gene in question is of the homeotic type.

What is a gene?

  • In biology, we refer to a gene as the most basic unit of genetic information.
  • It is a segment of DNA that encodes for a certain trait that may or may not be expressed.
  • A gene carries the information for a specific trait, for example:

             1) Eye color

             2) Body organization

             3) Height

What does it mean for a gene to be homeotic?

  • In the case of this question, the gene in question is a homeotic gene.
  • Homeotic genes are those that are in charge of the organization of the organism's body.
  • These genes control the general pattern of the body, such as where the arms and legs will be, and so on.

Therefore, given the definition of a homeotic gene, we can confirm that this is the type that best fits the description of the mutation in the question since it affected the formation and normal organization of the body.

Organisms that swim freely and maneuver actively in the water column are called what?
ohaa [14]

Answer:

Zooplankton - Animals (mostly microscopic) which drift freely in the water column.

Explanation: Zooplankton, small floating or weakly swimming organisms that drift with water currents and, with phytoplankton, make up the planktonic food supply upon which almost all oceanic organisms are ultimately dependent.
