Match the bolded word in each excerpt from "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman to its contextual meaning.
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

graft - to combine or integrate

transpire - to be revealed

to mottle- to mark with spots

Explanation:

"Song of Myself" is a poem by Walt Whitman, included in his collection Leaves of Grass. It is also the longest poem in this collection, and deals with the search for identity.

In the first excerpt of the poem - <em>''The first I graft and increase upon myself, the latter I translate into new tongue''</em>, the meaning of the word <em>'graft'</em> is to combine or integrate.

In the second excerpt - <em>''It may be you transpire from the breasts of young men"</em>, the word <em>'transpire'</em> means to be revealed.

In the last excerpt, <em>"Earth of shine and dark mottling the tide of the river", </em>the contextual meaning of <em>'mottling'</em> is marking with spots or blotches.

Modernist poetry explored the problems that arose from rapid urbanization and industrialization in the late 1800s and early 1900
Zinaida [17]
Answer: <span>4) The jar was gray and bare.

It should be that the word gray represents barrenness and the word bare refers to emptiness as their literal interpretation. As used in the modernist poetry, the jar connotes modern life in the midst of hollowness.</span>

Pretend you are Sancho Panza and that you have been asked to deliver the eulogy or funeral speech at the memorial service for Do
polet [3.4K]

Dear friends, today we are gathered to say goodbye to Don Quixote, a great man, whom I have sweet memories and that will never be erased from my mind. Don Quixote was a dreamer, intelligent and courageous. Many called him crazy and throughout his life he had to live with the humiliation and mockery of his closest friends who saw him as insane for living his own convictions. I confess that I was one of those and I regret not having given my attention to him before. I believe his friends would also be sorry if they heard him without judgment, as I did when I decided to be his faithful squire.

Don Quixote was a knight inside and out, he dared to keep the wonderful world of fantasy in our cruel reality. He was noble, kind, generous and passionate ... in love with life, books, adventures, landscapes and fantasy. Today he promotes his latest adventure and while we say goodbye I ask him not to be sad to continue the walk without me, because I know that when we meet again, our trips will be even more profitable.

What are the effects of using the third-person limited point of view for the narrative? Select True or False for each statement.
Scorpion4ik [409]

Explanation:

To answer this question we need to understand what the third-person limited point of view means.

The third-person point of view is when the narrator only relates his or her thoughts, feelings, and knowledge of various situations and other characters, and it is typically the main character. All characters are described using pronouns, such as 'they', 'he', and 'she'.

<u>Now let's answer the given options. Keep in mind that Jerome is the main character of the story:</u>

<u>Readers understand Jerome's development through the perspective of the other characters in the story</u> - False.

The third POV only gives us the development through the perspective of Jerome, not of other characters.

<u>Readers understand Jerome's thoughts and feelings as he works through a conflict </u>- True.

As Jerome is the main character and it is written in the third POV, then yes we can know his thoughts and feelings, and how he works through a conflict.

<u>The story is focused on the central lesson that Jerome learns, rather than the understandings of other characters</u> - True.

Yes, as he is the main character, we learn a lesson or understand the theme through his perspective.

<u>The focus of the story is on how all of the characters react to the conflict, rather than how Jerome learns from his experience</u> - False.

No, we focus on Jerome, and what he learns from his experience.

I hope it helped you :)
