There is no restriction on the coefficient of the polynomial, it can either be a fraction,a negative number of a positive number or even irrational number. It does not have any effect. What matters is the exponent. The exponent must be a non-negative integer. Since in this case the exponent is positive, the expression will be a polynomial.
