Lots of young men were Drafted into WWII (I'm pretty sure around 15million volunteer/draft), this left lots of children and woman to take care of the US, this meant that Women were encouraged to go to factories to help for war efforts, this also brings in the picture of Rosie the Riveter, this was a new picture of women since Rosie is a tough factory worker girl, when back then girls were known as housewives.

Both local and federal officials were unwilling to enforce legal decisions that outlawed segregation how did the students try to
valina [46]

Answer:

During this period, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights was responsible in the successful drive for passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1957. They followed up and continued to press for a stronger legislation.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)Youth Council chapters organized sit-ins at whites-only lunch counters thereby sparking a movement against segregation in public accommodations throughout the South in 1960. Nonviolent direct action also increased beginning with the 1961 Freedom Rides.

This led President Kennedy to send a comprehensive civil rights bill to the Congress shortly before his assassination. The bill was later signed by his successor President Johnson in 1964.

Answer:

Freedom Summer, also known as the Freedom Summer Project or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign in the United States launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi. Blacks had been restricted from voting since the turn of the century due to barriers to voter registration and other laws. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools, Freedom Houses, and community centers in small towns throughout Mississippi to aid the local Black population.
