Indians had no immunity to European diseases

This fact was one of the main causes for the decimation of the Native American population. The Indians simply never encountered the European diseases and their bodies had not antibodies to fight them off.

It was a very deadly war--the Great War produced new forms of guns, bombs, and gas weapons which proved to be devastating. 

The Great War, World War I, saw the emergence of tanks, rapid fire machine guns, grenades, mustard gas, and well as airplanes. The method of trench warfare in addition to highly accurate and deadly weapons led to both large numbers of causalities and stalemates. These weapons made it difficult to move position causing need for new techniques or new technology to allow movement.

The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people. The Ninth Amendment clearly rebutted the possible presumption that enumeration of some rights precluded the recognition of others. By its terms, it provides that the enumeration of specific rights should not be “construed to deny or disparage” other rights
