  • To show how foolish Romeo was for falling in love with Juliet who did not even acknowledge his existence.

Based on the play Romeo and Juliet by <em>William Shakespeare</em>, we can see that the author shows the character of Mercutio who is the best friend of Romeo who is smart, quick witted and rational. He tries to persuade Romeo to <em>forget about Juliet</em> as he does not believe in true love.

Furthermore, we can see that even though Mercutio was a loyal friend to Romeo and <em>tried his best</em> to let Romeo see reason, <em>Romeo was even more determined</em> to win the heart of Juliet.
