2. The New York Times and CBS News conducted a nationwide poll of 1048 randomly selected 13- to 17-year-olds. We can consider th

e sample to be a SRS. (a) Of these 1048 teenagers, 692 had a television in their room. Give a 95% confidence interval for the proportion of all people in this age group who had a TV in their room at the time of the poll

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval for the proportion of all people in this age group who had a TV in their room at the time of the poll is (0.6313, 0.6887).

Step-by-step explanation:

In a sample with a number n of people surveyed with a probability of a success of \pi, and a confidence level of 1-\alpha, we have the following confidence interval of proportions.

\pi \pm z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}}

In which

z is the zscore that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{\alpha}{2}.

For this problem, we have that:

Of these 1048 teenagers, 692 had a television in their room. This means that n = 1048, \pi = \frac{692}{1048} = 0.66

95% confidence level

So \alpha = 0.05, z is the value of Z that has a pvalue of 1 - \frac{0.05}{2} = 0.975, so Z = 1.96.

The lower limit of this interval is:

\pi - z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.66 - 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.66*0.34}{1048}} = 0.6313

The upper limit of this interval is:

\pi + z\sqrt{\frac{\pi(1-\pi)}{n}} = 0.66 + 1.96\sqrt{\frac{0.66*0.34}{1048}} = 0.6887

The 95% confidence interval for the proportion of all people in this age group who had a TV in their room at the time of the poll is (0.6313, 0.6887).

Determine whether the statement below is true or false. A function is increasing on an open interval I if, for any choice of x1
ELEN [110]

Answer: False.

Step-by-step explanation:

This says;

If we have an interval I, f(x) is increasing if, for any two x1, x2 such that:

x1 ∈ I and x2 ∈ I.

where x2 > x1, ----> f(x1) > f(x2).

An increasing function means that, if the value of x increases, also does the value of f(x).

Particularly, here we have that x2 > x1

so x can increase from x1 to x2.

But we have that f(x1) > f(x2)

So here we can see that the actual value of f(x) decreases as x increases.

Then this is not a increasing function, so the statement is false.

The limit represents the derivative of some function f at some number a. State such an f and a.
svetlana [45]

Limit definition of Derivative of a function at x=a : :

lim (f(a+h)-f(a))/h =

h->0

From limit definition i need just h in the denominator, so i can substitute, h = x-pi/4 as

x -> pi/4, h ->0

also x = pi/4+h

Comparing this with limit definition f(a+h) and tan (pi/4+h), we can figure out , f(x) = tan x , and a = pi/4. I hope that this is the answer that you were looking for and it has helped you.

Which sequence is generated by the function f(n + 1) = f(n) – 2 for f(1) = 10?
PSYCHO15rus [73]

Answer: The sequence generated is 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, ...

This sequence is arithmetic with starting term 10 and common difference -2. This means we add -2 to each term to get the next one (same as subtracting 2 from each term). This common difference is directly connected to the -2 from the recursive rule f(n+1) = f(n)-2

Whatever the nth term f(n) is, we subtract off 2 to get f(n)-2 to get the f(n+1) term, which is right after the nth term.
