Well yoda is old and very wise. Luke is young and also a quick learner. I think if you combined yoda's wiseness and luke's strength and youth, that would make thes best combination.
There are numerous ways. They mostly need to attract the attention of the media in order to show how the government policies need to be changed. People empathize with those in trouble so if they start striking and attract the attention of the media they can get the people to join them and support them and the government would change the legislature.

Sedition. Acts of verbal or physical rebellion against civil authority
Sepoys. Indians that formed a part of the british army
Boycott. Refuse to buy products or perform services as acts of rebellion against a company or goverment
Most Americans did not participate in the war so the people who didn't participate in the spent time taking care of the animals and farms. The reason why most Americans did not participate in the war was because they were focusing on staying alive.
