A “resident alien” of the United States, refers to someone who
malfutka [58]

Correct answer:  d. is a citizen of another country legally residing in the United States.

Explanation:

If you think about the term, "resident alien," the answer is essentially spelled out by that term.  The person is an "alien," which means someone from another country (not a US citizen).  At the same time, the person is a "resident," which means the individual is residing in this country.

If an immigrant is living in the country illegally, we call that person an "illegal immigrant" (just like the description).

If a person was born in the United States, that person is a US citizen.

Also, someone born in another country that has been naturalized is also a US citizen.

How were political opportunities created for African Americans during
vichka [17]

Answer:

The Answer is Option D: As a part of Congressional Reconstruction, African American men were able to  vote and take an active role in state government.

Explanation:

Sixty percent of the voting population in South Carolina were African American, and this assured Republicans were in control of the state government during Reconstruction. This allowed for the passage of progressive legislation that sought to improve conditions for the black communities,  more than was accomplished by any other state in the South. In 1869 the South Carolina Land Commission was created to encourage landownership among poor blacks. Francis L. Cardozo was elected as Secretary of State in 1868.  However, Organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan were active in the state and they beat hundreds of victims and murdered many public figures at this time such as Solomon Dill and James Martin. Between 1868 and 1871 South Carolina Republicans were subjected to terror.
