A city park commission received a donation of playground equipment from a parents' organization. The area of the playground need

s to be 256 square yards for the children to use it safely. The playground will be rectangular. The city will also put a fence around the playground. The perimeter, P, of the fence includes the gates. To save money, the city wants the least perimeter of fencing for the area of 256 square yards. Jovana was trying to find a formula for that perimeter with one side 8 yards longer than the other side using the area. In which step did she make a mistake? Step 1: Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Step 5: Step 6: Step 7: Explain her mistake. What is the correct formula?

A = (P/4)(P/2 - P/4)
= (P/4)^2

Therefore it is a square
Playground
256 yd^2
P least perimeter

256 = (P/4)^2
P/4 = √256
= 16
P = 4*16
= 64

The least fencing is 64 yards.

Hope I helped!

Answer:

x^2- 8x - 256=0

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the width of the rectangular park = x

b= x

As the area of the park is given to be 256 Sq yards

length l=\frac{256}{x}

The perimeter of any rectangle is given as

P = 2(length * width )

Hence

P = 2 ( x + \frac{256}{x})

In order to find the perimeter , we need to find the value of x first . In order to find x we have to use the relation which says that length is 8 yards more width of the park.

that is

\frac{256}{x}=x+8

which will give us the quadratic equation. solving that we will get the value of x

Ben makes a deposit of $1,200 into a savings account. The bank calculates simple interest annually at a rate of 6%. Interest is
Semmy [17]

Answer:

Ben must wait more than 4.2 years

Step-by-step explanation:

step 1

we know that

The simple interest formula is equal to

A=P(1+rt)

where

A is the Final Investment Value

P is the Principal amount of money to be invested

r is the rate of interest

t is Number of Time Periods

in this problem we have

t=?\ years\\ P=\$1,200\\r=6\%=6/100=0.06\\A>\$1,500

substitute the values

1,200(1+0.06t)>1,500

Solve for t

Divide by 1,200 both sides

(1+0.06t)>1.25

Subtract 1 both sides

0.06t>1.25-1

0.06t>0.25

Divide by 0.06 both sides

t>4.2\ years

therefore

Ben must wait more than 4.2 years

HELP. Georgina wants to make a 42% citric acid solution. If she has 0.5 liters of water, how many liters of a 49% citric acid so
Alika [10]

Answer:

Georgina should add 3 liters of 49% citric acid solution.

Step-by-step explanation:

let x be the liters of 49% solution that Georgina should add. Then after she has added 0.5 liters of water, the total liters of solution she has will be

x+0.5

and 42% of this should be the solute:

0.42(x+0.5)

and since adding water does not add any solvent, this amount must come from the 49% citric acid solution; therefore

0.42(x+0.5)=0.49x

Solving for x we get:

\boxed{x= 3\:liters}

This the amount of 49% citric acid solution Georgina must add.

The sum of two numbers is no more than 28. Let x represent the first number, and let y represent the second number. Which
Ira Lisetskai [31]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x the 1st and y the 2nd number. So the sum.of x and y means x+y is no more 28. That means is less than 28

So x+y<=28 or x+y<28.

Which expression shows the simplified form of (8 r Superscript negative 5 Baseline) Superscript negative 3? 8 r Superscript 15 S
Delvig [45]

Answer:

\frac{r^{15}}{512}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

(8r^{-5})^{-3}

Required

Simplify

This can be simplified using the following law of indices;

(ab)^n = a^{n}b^{n}

The equation becomes

(8^{-3})(r^{-5})^{-3}

Express 8^{-3} as a fraction

(\frac{1}{8^{3}})(r^{-5})^{-3}

Simplify 8^3

(\frac{1}{8*8*8})(r^{-5})^{-3}

(\frac{1}{512})(r^{-5})^{-3}

The expression can further be simplified using the following law of indices;

(a^m)^n = a^{mn}

(\frac{1}{512})(r^{-5})^{-3} becomes

(\frac{1}{512})(r^{-5*-3})

(\frac{1}{512})(r^{15})

\frac{r^{15}}{512}

<em>Hence, the solution to </em>(8r^{-5})^{-3}<em> is </em>\frac{r^{15}}{512}<em></em>
