There weren´t many lands in the Nort and east to ranch, because of the presence of the Native americans, the cattle drivers passed by those indian lands and were able to trade with the native americans, and trade among them resulted favorable for both parts, eventually those lands were bought and Native Americans left westwards, and those lands were used for ranching, which made cattle drives less profitable since supply increased.
