Constantine used sculptures from earlier Roman cultural times in which Hadrian had created cultic and social structures that became symbolic: amongst many other sculptures, the eight medallions that were placed in pairs above the side arches of the sculptures on the Arch of Constantine, represented the qualities of hunting and sacrifice, and originated from the time of Hadrian about 200 years earlier.
