Apply the Pythagorean Theorem here.

Square the lengths of the 2 shorter sides:  (20 mi)^2 and (40 mi)^2.  Correct results are 400 and 1600.  Combine these:  obtain 2000.

Then the length of the diagonal (which is the distance between the 2 cities) is
sqrt(2000) = sqrt(400)*sqrt(5) = 20 sqrt(5)    (answer)

Margarita [4]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

There are three times as many orange cats as black and white cats,

o = 3(b + w)

two times as many black and white cats as grey cats,

b + w = 2g

three fewer gray cats than white cats,

g = w - 3

three times as many white cats as calico cats,

w = 3L

and five white cats

w = 5

There is a problem with this.

There are 5 white cats.

There are 3 times as many white cats as calico cats.

That means there are 5/3 calico cats.

How can the number of a certain type f cats be a non-whole number?

It seems that the number of white cats must be a multiple of 3, but 5 is not.

Peter is reading a 193-page book. he has read three pages more than one fourth of the number of pages he ahsn't read yet.
olga55 [171]
Let the number he hasn't read yet be X
pages he has read = 3 + ¼x
so 3+¼x +x = 193
5/4x = 193-3 = 190
5x = 190×4 = 760
x= 760÷5 = 152

a. number of pages he hasn't read yet is 152
b if he reads 8 pages in 1 day
then he'll read 152 pages in 152/8 days = 19days
