The 13 colonists, later to be known as Americans, sought for their freedom, and rebelled against Britain. They fought back, wanting a revolution in order to make this newly known land (North America) their own. They wanted to govern it without being withheld by Great Brtain. They created the Declaration of Independce and the Bill of Rights because they wanted that, hence the name: the American Revolutionary War.
