The poll tax was a law implemented to restrict voting the rights of the citizen.  

<u>Explanation: </u>

One had to pay a certain amount in order to vote in any election. <em>Due to this law, many were restricted to vote as they were not able to pay the amount. </em>Especially, the poor and the vulnerable part of the society were affected the most.<em> While the literacy tests test a person’s ability to read and write. In between the 1850's to 1960's, the United State used the literacy tests which are based on one’s qualification to vote in the federal elections. So, the then government only allowed the people who had completed six years of formal education.</em>
