Answer:

The 11th Amendment was created to prohibit individuals from bringing suit against states in federal court. This means that per the amendment, federal courts do not have the authority to hear cases by private citizens against states. This Amendment was established to overrule the Supreme Court decision Chisholm v. Georgia from 1793.

The 14th Amendment was created to grant citizenship to all people born in the United States. It is predicated by the statement "equal protection of the laws", and was meant to overrule Brown v. Board of Education, Roe v. Wade, Bush v. Gore, Reed v. Reed, and University of California v. Bakke.

The 21st Amendment was created to allow the consumption of alcohol, therefore repealing the 18th Amendment, which called for the prohibition of alcohol (and citizens' reliance on speakeasies to illegally acquire alcohol).

The 22nd Amendment was created to establish term limits for presidents to two terms. This ensured that no president could run for three (consecutive) terms, and allowed for more turnover/perspectives in the presidential office.

The 24th Amendment prohibited states from requiring a poll tax for voters in federal elections. This was important because it allowed everyone to be able to vote.

The 25th Amendment was created to establish what happens when/if the president or vice president dies, resigns, or becomes disabled during their tenure in office.

The 26th Amendment was created to allow people ages 18 and over the right to vote. A key phrase of this amendment is "old enough to fight, old enough to vote", as 18 is also when young men can join the military.

And the 27th Amendment was created to prohibit any law that increases or decreases the salary of members of Congress from taking effect until the start of the next set of terms of office for representatives.

2. Explain how John Brown would be viewed by abolitionists and how Southern plantation owners would have
iris [78.8K]

Before the American Civil War, John Brown led the abolitionist movement in the United States. In contrast to many other abolitionists, he supported taking action against slaveowners and any government officials who supported them.

When he took control of the largest Federal arsenal at Harpers Ferry, in October 1859, abolitionist John Brown forced citizens of the United States to reconsider the immorality of the institution of slavery and the injustices supported by the government.

By becoming a conductor on the Underground Railroad and establishing the League of Gileadites, a club that helped runaway slaves make it to Canada, John Brown was able to advance the abolitionist cause. In 1849, Brown moved to the free black farming community of North Elba, New York. Southerners were particularly worried about the possibility of such murderous plots. They viewed John Brown as a terrorist out to destroy their society, which strengthened support for secession. Because of their dread, many Southern states passed legislation designed to put an end to slave uprisings.
