The US has one district and 50 states whereas Canada has 3 territories and 10 provinces. The US has more administrative divisions that that of Canada so it has a bigger government.

Americans view their government as an intervention in their lives and are mostly opposed to their governments. Whereas, Canadians think that their government has a fundamental role to play and this is why Canadians are not opposed to higher taxes.
