ANSWER: Long ago Romans used to use Tufa to construct their buildings. This was a long time before concrete came into use. Tufa never went outdated but Travertine was started to be used because of its long durability. Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs. It often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties.
