I believe the message is to help others no matter how harsh the situation is.
The poem focused on the cold whether that experienced by the narrator and  a dog.
Despite his initial reluctance, the narrator eventually let the dog inside the house because he's worried about his condiiton.

<span>The message is that he is very sad that winter is here, he is longing for summer. When he sees the snow and cold, his spirit is longing for warm weather. He is depressed about the winter and it makes him sad, he is longing for something that makes him happy.</span>
