Answer:

A function can only have one y value for each value of x, ie., y = f(x). The vertical line test verifies this. If you move a vertical line across the grid, your graph should never intersect this line at more than one place at a time. If it intersects at 2 or more places, there is no way a y=f(x) can make this happen, so then it is not a function.

Set A' equal to zero to find the maximum value for A
0 = 54 - 6x^2
6x^2 = 54
x^2 = 9
x = 3
We got our x-value! Now let's find the y value at that point:
y= 27 - x^2
y = 27 - 9
y = 18

The height our rectangle will be 18, and our base will be 2*x = 2*3 = 6
Area = base x height = 18 * 6 = 108
The answer is B) 108.

Using the pythagorean method let's calculate for "c" the hypotenuse.

c = \sqrt{ {a}^{2} + {b}^{2} }

Substitute

c = \sqrt{ {35}^{2} + {12}^{2} }

Solve,

c = \sqrt{1225 + 144}

Simplify,

c = \sqrt{1369}

Calculate one last time,

The hypotenuse is 37 inches.
