What is considered the backbone of police work?

Well police work constitutes several different factors. One is to detect crime, and that more often than not, in all developed nations, involves surveillance and "Intel" on suspicious personnel. This can range from your day to day uniformed officers to the more high end types like covert FBI and CIA who are most often than not, seen wearing plainclothes.

Next is to deter crime, and this is done as a preventive action. This can come through the form of having good relationships with the surrounding community, building up support from the grassroots and of course, addressing the issues and crime related concerns poised by these stakeholders.

And the most commonly seen type of policing, would be the normal day to day patrol officers. These officers are deemed to be the front-liners against vice and criminal activities, and often than not perceived as the only backbone of policing work.

However, alike all corporate organizations, each police force has a wide range of supporting services which ensures the functionality of the police. But in essence, the above 3 factors constitutes the seen and unseen "backbone" of police work. Hope this helps:)<span />

Andrew loses his job because he came to work while he was under the influence of alcohol. He approaches Ron, a social worker, fo
Yuliya22 [10]

Answer:

A) judging, criticizing, and placing blame.

Explanation:

First of all, the social worker is not even considering the possibility that Andrew could have been fired without justification, or that he could get his job back, he is placing blame exclussively on the worker (Andrew).

Besides, he is judging Andrew as an alcoholic, or at least, as a person who has serious problems with alcohol consumption (so serious to the point of going to work drunk and being fired because of that), and finally, the social worker is criticizing the way Andrew is dealing with his possible alcoholism, because he is telling Andrew that he is not even Aware of what alcohol is doing to him.

Which sentence contains a dangling modifier? A. Having done well on her research, she earned an A on the paper. B. Preparing f
Arlecino [84]

Answer:

<em>B,  Preparing for the experiment, several slides were fixed with dye.</em>

Explanation:

<h3>Modifiers</h3>

Modifiers are simple words or phrases used to add emphasis to another word in a sentence. Adjectives and adverbs are used to provide emphasis to nouns and verbs respectively. Clauses and phrases can also be used as modifiers in a sentence. <em>The </em><em>nice </em><em>Child; </em><em> </em>In the example, the adjective shows us that the Child is nice and it is the modifier.

<h3>Dangling Modifiers</h3>

A modifier is considered dangling when the word that its will modifier is not contained in the sentence. For example, the nice ........; the nice in this example is dangling because it does not have a word to modify.

Preparing for the experiment, several slides were fixed with dye  contains a dangling modifier. "Preparing for experiment" is  expressing an action, but the person experimenting is not known.  Since the person performing the experiment is not known the phrase "<em>preparing for the experiment</em>" is considered a dangling modifier because it is not modifying any word in the sentence.
