Clear cutting of trees increases the amount of carbon dioxide. Trees are useful in balancing the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. They trap carbon dioxide that is used during photosynthesis in the manufacture of carbohydrates. When there is deforestation, the excess carbon dioxide rises to the atmosphere forming a blanket that traps excess heat which causes global warming or greenhouse effect. The excess heat warms the aerth surface.
