Irony is a literary technique and language device that can be categorized in three sub-types: dramatic, situational and verbal.

Verbal irony is when the words being said mean something different than what the speaker is actually saying, and it happens intentionally.

Dramatic irony is when the audience or reader knows something that the characters in the work of fiction do not.

Situational irony involves a situation in which the expectation and the outcome are very different. For situational irony to happen, something has to lead a person to have that expectation. It is different from bad luck, which is simply when something unpleasant happens.

In the examples given, even though they all represent a contrast between expectation and situation, not all of them are founded in realistic expectations.

The example "Cyril expects there to be sheep in the park, but there are not" is the one that best represents situational irony, as the person went to the park with that belief and the opposite happened.

Jolie can read around 14 sentences per minute of her current novel. She wants to finish her reading before the movie comes out n
MAVERICK [17]
First of all, find how many sentences are in 17 pages. If in one page there are 120 sentences, in 17...

17*120 = 2040 sentences.

Now, she can read 14 sentences in one minute, how many minutes to read 2040 sentences?

2040 : 14 = 145,71 minutes (about 146 mins).

So, in an hour there are 60 minutes

146 : 60 = 2,42 hours (about 2,5)

But you can also convert 145,71 mins = 2 hours and 25 mins.
