An 85 year old woman, Betsy, is hospitalized due to cardiac issues. Somehow, her medical orders got confused with someone else’s

, and Betsy was given an IV containing a K+ enhanced fluid meant for another patient that was taking potassium-wasting diuretics (drugs that cause excessive loss of potassium from the body in urine). Betsy’s potassium levels are normal before the IV is administered.

The concentration gradient of K+ would increase. This would give a great driving force for the higher concentration of the K+. Once absorbed in the blood, it would diffuse through the cell's membrane. Since K+ is an ion, it would increase the membrane potential of the cell.

Which macromolecule provides a person with most of the energy that is needed for daily activities?
solmaris [256]

The right option is; A. carbohydrates

Carbohydrate is the most important energy source for the body and it is the macromolecule that provides a person with most of the energy that is needed for daily activities. The body breaks down and uses carbohydrates faster and easier. This makes carbohydrate a short term fuel source that provides the body's most immediate energy that is required for daily functions. Also the body prefers to use carbohydrate as fuel during some activities such as exercise. Sources of carbohydrate include brown rice, whole grains (barley, and oats), fruits and vegetables and beans.
