Answer: A. the Russian Revolution.

Animal Farm by George Orwell makes extensive use of figurative language in order to present a critique of the Russian Revolution. The rebellion that the animals start is meant to be a parallel to this war, and the animals are meant to be the peasants, who wanted to appropriate the means of production. Orwell argues that, although the war's objectives were not altogether wrong, the revolution implemented a system in which peasants continue to be abused while the power is still concentrated in the hands of a few.
