The answer is the double-blind study. Using the double-blind study, it eliminates the concern that participant or experimenter’s beliefs may skew the results.

EXPLANATION

In a double-blind study, the participants and the experimenters both do not know which group is receiving a particular treatment. This procedure is done to prevent bias when experimenting. Double-blind studies are used to prevent bias from a placebo effect or from demanding characteristics.

One of the examples of a double-blind study is the research of a new drug. If this research uses a double-blind study, the researchers nor the participants would not know who was receiving the real drug and who was receiving the placebo treatment.

Here’s a little more explanation about the double-blind study. This type of procedure indicates that both participants and experimenters are not aware of which group is receiving real treatment. The term “treatment” in psychology works as the independent variable in the research.

This procedure is different than the single-bling study. In the single-blind study, the experimenters know which participant is receiving the real treatment, while the participants are unaware of it (placebo).

Placebo is a treatment with no substance. The participant who receives the placebo treatment gets no effect in taking it. The placebo is given to the control group, while the experiment group receives real treatment.
