"Her round face looked darker, and the gentleness of her eyes, the thin, arching eyebrows, seemed weary. I brushed the few stran

ds of gray, brittle hair from her face; she managed to smile at me… Yet when she spoke, and her voice hesitated, cracked, the somber shadows of her room chilled me. Her wrinkled brow grew wet with fever, and her small body seemed even more diminutive." Based on this quote from "The Jade Peony" by Wayson Choy, what can you conclude about Grandmama? What sound device is used in lines 19-24?
Airida [17]
Assonance and alliteration appear in this selection; however, assonance is the main sound technique.

Alliteration is used in "trembling Tyrant."

Assonance is the repetition of the same vowel sound in words that are near one another. Assonance is used in the repetition of the same /e/ sound in the words: "next," "bent," "<span>incensed," "sent," "fell," "destroyer." The same /i/ sound is repeated in the words "quickly," "brings," "shrinks."
