Woodrow Wilson who advocated peace converted himself into a war president with his declaration of war in Congress.

Germany had resolved that it would take up submarine warfare and with its U boats Germany attacked all the American ships which were indulging in trade with Great Britain.

Zimmerman Telegram was a source of spying which was sent to the German Ambassador’s office which stated that marine attacks will be continued and that if America behaves neutrally then the president of America needs to bear the end result of it.

This initiated resentment in Wilson and after five days he declared war on Germany which he never desired but for ‘the world must remain safe for democracy’, which was the much appraised statement made by Wilson who cried when he felt that young Americans are going to be dead in the World war I.
