Over the last several decades, the scientific community has gathered a large amount of information regarding genetics and geneti

c variation. What are two main sources that lead to increased genetic variation? . . Selective breeding . . Gamete mutations . . Recombination . . Genetic drift . . I have looked all in my notes and can't find anything on this topic.

The right answer is Recombination AND Genetic drift

Recombination is an exchange of genetic information (strand of DNA) between two different sectors of the genome. A frequent example is the meiosis between homologous chromosomes (crossing over).

Genetic drift is the evolution of a population or species caused by random phenomena, impossible to predict. From the genetic point of view, it is the modification of the frequency of an allele, or of a genotype, within a population, independently of the mutations, the natural selection and the migrations. Genetic drift is caused by random and unpredictable phenomena, such as the chance of sperm and egg encounters, in the case of sexual reproduction.

A population's emigration in one month totaled three individuals. During the same period, immigration was 17 individuals. Natali
Ratling [72]

There was no net change in the given population. The size of the given population remains unchanged.

The explanation behind this is that if we consider the given values-

Emigration- 3

Immigration- 17

Natality- 12

Mortality-26

Therefore,

The overall effect on the population will be=

(Emigration+ Mortality) - (Immigration + Natality)

= (3+26) - (17 + 12)

=29-29

=0

Here the emigration means the number of people who have migrated from the population. Mortality refers to the number of deaths in a given population. Immigration is the migration of people into the population and natality is the overall number of births that have taken place in a population. Therefore there is no net gain or loss in the given population. This exerts no effect on the population keeping it unchanged.

what is the difference between the closed conformation and open conformation of chromatin packing? biology
Oduvanchick [21]

The shape of chromatin, which can be either open (euchromatin) or compact (heterochromatin), is dynamically regulated during the phases of the cell cycle is the two types of conformations.

  • The main distinction between conformation and configuration is that whereas the configurations of the same molecule do not easily interconvert, their conformations do.
  • With a predefined location in the nucleus and a certain form, such as metacentric, submetacentric, acrocentric, or telocentric, chromosomes are primarily heterochromatic in this stage.
  • All DNA-mediated processes, including gene regulation, can be significantly impacted by the degree of nucleosomal packaging.
  • While heterochromatin (tight or closed chromatin) is more compact and resistant to factors that need to access the DNA template, euchromatin (loose or open chromatin) structure is permissible for transcription.
