His name, Theseus, was in everybody's mouth, for he had done great deeds of daring; and at last he had come to Athens to find his father, King Aegeus, who had never heard whether he was alive or dead; and when the youth had made himself known, the king had welcomed him to his home and all the people were glad because so noble a prince had come to dwell among them and, in time, to rule over their city. Did the invasion fail or succeed? Explain.
Setler79 [48]

The Bay of Pigs debacle had a lasting impression on the Kennedy administration.

The administration launched Operation Mongoose, a strategy to undermine and destabilize the Cuban government and economy, with the potential to assassinate Castro, in an effort to atone for the invasion's failure. CIA analysts had examined reconnaissance photos, but had missed coral reefs in the shallow Bay of Pigs seas that slowed down landing craft and rendered two boats inoperable.

Additionally, one of the red signal lights a frogman was carrying offshore unintentionally flickered. Sixty years after the Bay of Pigs invasion, which represented an unsuccessful attempt to topple Fidel Castro's government in Cuba, the island is still celebrating its victory while the invaders who persisted live on in the US with a sense of duty done.

The Crucible by Arthur Miller
kaheart [24]
1692, the Massachusetts Bay Colony executed fourteen women, five men, and two dogs for witchcraft. The sorcery materialized in January. The first hanging took place in June, the last in September; a stark, stunned silence followed. Although we will never know the exact number of those formally charged with having “wickedly, maliciously, and feloniously” engaged in sorcery, somewhere between a hundred and forty-four and a hundred and eighty-five witches and wizards were named in twenty-five villages and towns. The youngest was five; the eldest nearly eighty. Husbands implicated wives; nephews their aunts; daughters their mothers; siblings each other. One minister discovered that he was related to no fewer than twenty witches.
